A small rear courtyard garden that sits within an estate of houses all with white boundary fences in Primrose Hill. A new fence system was installed with hit and miss panels at the bottom and horizontal slatted panels at the top. The brief for the planting was ‘pastel and pretty’ with climbing plants to help soften the stark white of the fencing. The clients requested we keep the existing flooring (wooden decking) as it still had a good lifetime but it was cleaned and re-sealed to give a more polished effect. The central feature of the garden is an elephant – albeit a painted fiberglass one. Ellie sits on a basalt plinth above a cupboard and she is reflected in a mirror polished water feature panel behind. The pastel planting palette was in part taken from the painted marks on Ellie. An existing table and chairs were also incorporated into the scheme but for more flexibility a cantilevered bench was installed to provide a separate seating area under the shade of an Olive tree.
