About This Project
Renovations to the ground and lower ground floor of a period property dictated a much more connected and usable garden. Originally much of the garden was given way to wide steps but in order to create more usable areas these steps were discreetly relocated so they became functional and not the main feature. This allowed spaces to be created for a small snug area, large outdoor cooking g space, dining and lounging.
Materials were led by a natural soft palette with woven willow, cream sandstone and pale clay pavers laid in a herringbone pattern. To minimise the palette the kitchen, bench seat and fire were finished in the same microcement and stand alone furniture in a natural teak finish.
Planting is a pared down approach with a high percentage of evergreens in the form of climbers and hedges to ensure a strong and interesting backbone all year round. Planters were chosen in warm bronze tones and planted with Olives, which with their silvery foliage add highlights to the otherwise green and white scheme.
As with many projects in London, access was a challenge due to very narrow side entrance, multiple level changes and proximity from the road. The design had to respond to these parameters whilst delivering a warm and inviting aesthetic.
