This is a gardeners garden. A place where soil on show in the winter is relished rather than shied away from. Topiary forms add interest and although the bold diagonal lines of the scheme are contemporary in feel the materials are all reclaimed and the planting traditional in feel. Topiary adds formality and winter structure and in Spring Tulips and Allium flood the empty beds, followed by Eremurus and Galtonia.
The planting is weighted towards mid to late summer and comes into its own from mid July right up until the frosts with colours morphing from pinks and blues in July to hot colours and bright yellows as the light changes in the autumn. This is only a small area of the garden and over the coming years we will be working to develop additional areas with distinctly different themes.
